Beginnings: East Mississippi Community College established a branch location in Macon nearly
30 years ago. In the early days, two instructors offered classes in English and history
at the Noxubee County Vocational Center.
Classes: Today, EMCC instructors teach core classes in the evening at Noxubee County High
School. Adult Basic Education classes are offered at the Noxubee County Public Library.
A GED Fast-Track class meets at the James Arthur Hensleigh Training Center, a portable
classroom behind the courthouse in downtown Macon. EMCC’s Workforce Services Division
teaches welding near the Civic Center on Highway 45, in a lab provided by the Appalachian
Regional Commission, and computer courses at the Hensleigh Center.
Accreditation: EMCC is fully accredited by the Southern Association of College and Schools Commission
on Colleges. This means your academic classes will transfer to any senior college
of your choice with whom EMCC maintains an articulation agreement. EMCC is articulated
with all senior colleges in the state of Mississippi.
The faculty and staff at EMCC helped prep me for the next level. If I ever had any
questions, they were always available. They want us to not just be better students
but to be better people as well.

I found the professors and administration personally interested in every individual.
With that atmosphere EMCC gave me the self confidence and insight to successfully
transition into a four year university.

I chose my field of study because I hope to run my own business. My teachers were
great. They were willing to meet with me after class if needed, and they never hesitated
to answer in-class questions as well.
