Lions collect second straight third-place finish at MACJC's second spring golf event in Raymond
RAYMOND – The East Mississippi Community College men’s golf team collected a second straight third-place finish this past weekend at the MACJC’s second spring event held at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course.

Head coach Dale Peay’s EMCC Lions improved three strokes to a second-round 310 on Sunday to finish five shots ahead of Northwest Mississippi Community College with a two-day collective total of 623.  Four-time defending NJCAA Region 23 champion Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College easily out-distanced the 10-team field with a 590 team score that included an opening-round, even-par 288 on Saturday.  In claiming the team title for the second week in a row, the Bulldogs held a 21-stroke advantage over runner-up Copiah-Lincoln Community College (307-304—611).


Individually for EMCC, freshman Miles Respess earned all-tournament honors for the second consecutive week with a fourth-place finish at the Hinds Community College-hosted event.  The Paragould, Ark., native equaled the tournament’s best second-day round with a 1-over-par 73 Sunday to complete the two-day event with a 151.


The MGCCC Bulldogs took the top three spots on the individual leader board, headlined by Drew Seals earning medalist honors with an ever-par 144 (71-73) to finish two shots ahead of teammate Jared Smith (71-75—146).  Bulldog teammate Marcus Cox followed four strokes behind with a 150 (77-73).


Fellow EMCC newcomer Nick Davis also recorded his second Top 10 showing in a row to begin his collegiate career.  The Springville, Ala., product tied with last week’s medalist, Copiah-Lincoln’s Keaton Stamps, for ninth place individually at 154 (75-79).


Lion sophomore Weston Wallace, last year’s Hubert Tucker Award recipient as the MACJC’s regular-season stroke average leader, finished in a three-way tie for 13th place with a 156 total (79-77).  Bobby Bowlin, Wallace’s former Northwest Rankin High School teammate, tied for 16th (76-81—157) competing as an individual, while fellow EMCC sophomores Tyler Slocum (82-75—157) and Andrew Spiers (81-81—162) followed at 16th and 30th place, respectively.  Zac Taylor, of Caledonia, rounded out the Lions’ scorecard at 39th place (83-84—167).


Featuring back-to-back tournaments with four straight days of competition, the third event of the MACJC’s spring golf slate, hosted by Copiah-Lincoln Community College, is taking place Monday and Tuesday (March 5-6) in Brookhaven and Wesson, respectively.
