SCOOBA – Four East Mississippi Community College sophomores are set to display their hardwood skills during Monday’s annual Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-Star Basketball Games being hosted by East Central CC in Decatur.

All-region performers Deonte Alexander and Jonathan King are slated to represent the two-time defending NJCAA Region 23 champion EMCC Lions in Monday’s all-star competition, while RoTasha Windom, of Kemper County, and Columbus’ Jamie Gunter are set to represent East Mississippi’s Lady Lions.

The 5 p.m. women’s all-star game will be followed by a 7 p.m. men’s contest at the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building on the East Central CC campus. Admission for the all-star doubleheader will be $5 per person.

Alexander led head coach Mark White’s 25-5 EMCC Lions in scoring this past season with an average of 17.0 points per contest. A 6-foot-1, 185-pound backcourt performer, Alexander also averaged 3.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game as a sophomore along with hitting 91-of-246 (37%) from three-point range on the year. The Nashville, Tenn., native totaled 952 career points (14.9 ppg), 228 rebounds (3.6 rpg), 183 assists (2.9 apg) and 100 steals (1.6 spg) in helping lead the Lions to two-year composite records of 52-12 overall and 22-2 in league play, including two straight NJCAA Tournament appearances and back-to-back NJCAA Region 23 titles.

A native of Panama City, Panama, King averaged a double-double with 13.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per outing this past season for the 12^th-ranked Lions. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound forward also shot 53 percent from the field and 74 percent from the charity stripe, while registering 13 double-doubles on the year. For his two-year stint on the EMCC campus, King totaled 681 career points (11.0 ppg) and 527 rebounds (8.5 rpg) along with 18 career double-doubles to his credit.

A two-year performer for head coach Sharon Thompson’s EMCC Lady Lions, Windom averaged 6.4 points and a team-high 9.5 rebounds per game this past season. The 5-foot-11 post player also shot a club-best 61 percent from the field as a sophomore in starting all 25 games for the MACJC North Division champions.

Gunter, who previously played at Columbus High School, averaged 8.7 points and 6.1 rebounds an outing in 13 appearances for the 15-10 Lady Lions as a sophomore after returning to the court in January following preseason knee surgery. Gunter played her freshman season at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette before transferring to EMCC for her sophomore campaign.
