EMCC Lady Lions extend hoops win streak to five games at Gulf Coast tourney
PERKINSTON – The Lady Lions of East Mississippi extended their win streak to five consecutive games with a pair of neutral-site tournament wins this week in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic.  Following Monday’s convincing 64-49 win over Alabama Southern, EMCC battled back to claim a 71-63 comeback victory over Baton Rouge Community College Tuesday afternoon at the Weathers/Wentzell Center on the MGCCC campus in Perkinston.

In Tuesday’s come-from-behind triumph over BRCC, head coach Sharon Thompson’s 5-2 Lady Lions trimmed a double-digit deficit in the first half to just four points (35-31) by halftime.  Sparked by Chadisty Hickman’s 17 second-half points, EMCC outscored the Lady Bears, 40-28, after intermission to pull away with the eight-point win.

Sophomore forward Nashedra Barry of Columbus scored 13 of her season-high 20 points in the first half against Baton Rouge.  Hickman, a freshman guard from Kemper County, scored all 17 of her points after halftime to aid in the winning effort.

During Monday’s tournament opener against Alabama Southern, the East Mississippi women jumped out to a 35-20 halftime lead on the way to coasting to the 15-point win over the Lady Eagles.

In the ASCC contest, Hickman led the way for EMCC with 19 points to mark the sixth straight outing to open the season that she had earned game scoring honors for the Lady Lions.  Sophomore RoTasha Windom registered her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 15 rebounds for the winners.

Following the Thanksgiving holiday break, the East Mississippi basketball teams will return to action with a pair of home doubleheaders next week on the Scooba campus.  After playing host to Jones County on Monday, EMCC will begin MACJC North Division play with a Thursday twinbill versus Holmes.  Tip-off times are set for 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. both days at EMCC’s Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.
