East Mississippi men's rodeo team places sixth at Murray State in fall finale
SCOOBA – The East Mississippi men’s rodeo squad closed out fall competition with a sixth-place team performance this past weekend at Murray State University’s 35th annual college rodeo held at the William “Bill” Cherry Expo Center in Murray, Ky.

Freshman Will Lummus, of West Point’s Oak Hill Academy, accounted for 215 of EMCC’s 320 team points with a second-place finish in the calf roping competition and a fifth-place showing in the steer wrestling event.  In calf roping, Lummus picked up 140 points as runner-up to Troy’s Stetson Aldridge with a composite time of 19.1 seconds, including an event-best 9.0 seconds in the short go.  Lummus added 75 points in steer wrestling with his fifth-place composite time of 11.3 seconds.


Former Noxubee County standout D.D. Hunt earned 100 points for the EMCC Lions by finishing second in the team roping competition with partner Lane Taylor of Troy University.  West Point’s Jake Pollard added five points to EMCC’s team effort in the calf roping event.


Missouri Valley College increased its lead in the Ozark Region’s team standings of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association by winning the men’s competition at the Murray State rodeo with 610 points.  Troy and Southern Arkansas finished second and third, respectively, with 530 and 500 points.


In the women’s competition, Southern Arkansas maintained its second-place position among the NIRA’s Ozark Region women’s team standings by winning at Murray State and earning 545 points.  Host Murray State and standings leader Tennessee-Martin followed with 330 and 285 points, respectively.


Through the five fall rodeo competitions, head coach Morgan Goodrich’s EMCC Lions rank fifth in the Ozark Region team standings with 1,657.50 composite points to stand slightly behind fourth-place Murray State University (1,675 points) and the University of West Alabama (1,782.50).


Individually, EMCC’s Lummus ranks third among the Ozark Region’s leading steer wrestlers with 380 composite points through the fall season.  Missouri Valley’s Cody Metsker and Ace Campbell of West Alabama are presently tied for the individual lead in the steer wrestling competition with 430 points apiece.
