EMCC men's rodeo team maintains third-place regional standing after Troy event
SCOOBA – The East Mississippi men’s rodeo team placed sixth this past weekend at the Trojan Stampede Rodeo hosted by Troy University at the Pike County Cattlemen’s Association Complex in Troy, Ala.

With 205 team points at the Troy-hosted competition, the EMCC Lions finished just 15 points behind the University of West Alabama.  The University of Tennessee at Martin earned a narrow 10-point victory (535-525) over host Troy in the men’s team standings.  UT Martin easily won the women’s competition with 695 team points.


Having previously earned 715 team points by winning the University of West Alabama-hosted rodeo two weeks ago in Livingston, head coach Morgan Goodrich’s EMCC Lions presently sit third among the Ozark Region team members of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association with a composite total of 1,337.50 team points.  With one more rodeo event remaining on the fall schedule, Missouri Valley College currently stands atop the men’s team regional rankings with 2,593.33 points, followed by UT Martin’s 1,930 team points. 

Individually for East Mississippi this past weekend at Troy, freshman Will Lummus of West Point earned a second-place showing (105 points)  in the steer wrestling competition with times of 5.1 and 6.3 seconds.  Fresh off his first-place effort at the West Alabama-hosted event two weeks ago, the former Oak Hill Academy standout presently owns a 15-point advantage (305-290) over UWA’s Ace Campbell atop the Ozark Region’s steer wrestling standings.


Also for EMCC this past weekend at Troy, freshman D.D. Hunt of Noxubee County individually collected 90 total points for the Lions by teaming with Troy’s Lane Taylor to earn third-place points in the team roping competition as well as placing 10th in the steer wrestling event.  The team roping tandem of Cody Warner of Louisville and West Point’s Jake Pollard secured EMCC’s remaining 10 points.
 

Following their first break from rodeo competition since the start of the fall campaign last month, the Lions of East Mississippi will close out their fall schedule by competing at the Murray State University College Rodeo, Oct. 28-30, in Murray, Ky.
