EMCC's Jackson Bryant ties for 13th at NJCAA Region 23 Golf Championship
RAYMOND – Freshman Jackson Bryant officially closed out East Mississippi’s 2010 spring golf season by finishing in a tie for 13th place at this week’s NJCAA Region 23 Golf Championship played at Eagle Ridge Golf Club.

Bryant, from Natchez’s Trinity Episcopal Day School, jumped nine places with Monday’s 3-over-par 75 to tie Northeast Mississippi’s Daniel Singh for 13th place in the two-day event.  Competing individually for head coach Dale Peay’s EMCC Lions, Bryant stood in a three-way tie for 22nd place following Sunday’s opening-round 80.

In the team competition, Mississippi Gulf Coast (296-297—593) pulled away from the field during Monday’s final round to post a 17-shot victory over runner-up Northeast Mississippi (298-312—610).  Northwest Mississippi (305-319—624) finished third, followed by Copiah-Lincoln (319-312—631) and host Hinds (323-320—643).

The win marked MGCCC’s third consecutive NJCAA Region 23 team golf title and qualified the Bulldogs for next month’s (May 18-21) NJCAA Division II Men’s Golf National Championship at Palm Valley Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz.

Individually, Mississippi Gulf Coast’s Skyler Dennis (74-72—146) claimed regional medalist honors over teammate Richie Williams (72-74—146) by winning a sudden death playoff on the first hole with a par.  Dennis and Williams were joined on the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team by Northeast’s Brandon Robbins (71-76—147), Alex Rowland (73-75—148) of Itawamba, East Central’s Luke Brown (74-77—151), and Nic Ishee (74-77—151) of Gulf Coast.
