SCOOBA – Highlighted by Tuesday’s “Sophomore Day” doubleheader against visiting Northwest Mississippi, the East Mississippi Lions will close out the 2010 baseball season with a pair of twin bills this week on the Scooba campus.

Having recently added a pair of season-ending Wednesday home games against Bishop State Community College, out of Mobile, Ala., both doubleheaders are slated to begin at 2 p.m. at EMCC’s Gerald Poole Field.

Head coach Tony Montgomery’s EMCC Lions enter the final week of the regular season with a 21-23 overall record and 8-14 divisional mark after splitting a doubleheader at Mississippi Delta this past Sunday.  Postponed a day because of Saturday’s stormy weather throughout Mississippi, the Lions snapped their eight-game losing skid by claiming a 6-5 decision in nine innings during Sunday’s opening game in Moorhead.  EMCC fell, 5-3, to the Trojans in the nightcap.

Among those second-year EMCC baseball players set to be recognized during Tuesday’s “Sophomore Day” activities on the Scooba campus include: Jose Acosta (Newton County HS); Derek Beach (Heidelberg Academy); Drew Esslinger (Hancock HS); Brandon Kiewel (Rapid City, SD); Corey Luke (Philadelphia HS); Alex Lummus (West Point’s Oak Hill Academy); Cody Pounders (Columbus’ New Hope HS); Tyler Richardson (West Lauderdale HS); Drew Vaughan (Columbus’ Heritage Academy); Matt Wigington (Hernando HS); and David Williams (Hernando HS).
