EMCC offering summer athletic camps on Scooba campus
ImageSCOOBA – East Mississippi Community College will be offering summer camps for women’s basketball, football, softball and baseball on the Scooba campus.

Reigning MACJC Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year Sharon Thompson will be holding a three-day camp, June 22-24, at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum in Scooba.  Open to all school-aged children (kindergarten-12th grade), camp for kids entering eighth grade and lower is slated to take place from 9 a.m. until noon each of the three days.  Camp for teenagers entering grades 9-12 is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. all three days.  For more information on this month’s EMCC women’s basketball camp, contact the Lady Lion basketball office at 662-476-5140.

Fresh from the program’s first state tournament appearance since 2002, EMCC’s softball staff will conduct a two-day camp, June 25-26, on the Scooba campus.  Available for children entering grades 2-12, the Lady Lions’ Softball Camp will feature a hitting session on Thursday morning, June 25, beginning at 9 a.m. on the EMCC Softball Field.  An all-skills session will follow Thursday afternoon from 1-4 p.m.  The following day (June 26), a pitching and catching session will take place starting at 9 a.m.  Additional information on EMCC’s upcoming softball camp can be obtained by contacting Lady Lion head coach Kate Neely (662-476-5043) or assistant coach Casey Finch (662-476-5033).

The gridiron will also stay busy on the Scooba campus this summer with a pair of football camps taking place.  EMCC will first offer a 7-on-7 Passing Camp on Wednesday, June 24 at Sullivan-Windham Field.  Registration is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.  Coach Buddy Stephens’ Lions are also scheduled to conduct a Lineman Camp, July 7-9, for student-athletes entering grades 9-12.  Contact East Mississippi assistant football coaches Clifton Collins (662-476-5129) or Tommy Ferrill (662-476-8462) for additional information regarding EMCC’s summer football camps.

East Mississippi is also slated to hold a week-long baseball camp, July 19-23, at renovated Gerald Poole Field on the Scooba campus.  Five 90-minute sessions – two in the morning, two during the afternoon and one under the lights – will be conducted daily throughout the week.  Interested campers are encouraged to contact EMCC head coach Tony Montgomery (662-476-5343) or assistant coach Josh Snider (662-476-5067) for more details.
