Scott Gasper
A year ago, Gasper most recently served as offensive coordinator in charge of quarterbacks and wide receivers at Laurel High School in Maryland, where he installed the Spartans’ spread offense and took an athlete without previous quarterbacking experience and tutored him to a record-breaking season.
Prior to that, Gasper spent the previous three seasons working in the same capacity at Knoxville Catholic High School in Tennessee. With Gasper having implemented the spread offense upon his arrival in 2008, the Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish claimed a school-first Class 3A state championship that first year and went on to produce back-to-back, second-round playoff appearances the next two seasons despite being elevated to Class 5A status in 2009. While compiling a three-year composite record of 28-11, the Fighting Irish offensive unit produced seven all-state players and two Mr. Football Award winners during Gasper’s watch.
Gasper’s most recent coaching experience at the collegiate level came during his five-year association with Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa. Having played an integral role in the formation of the school’s football program, Gasper utilized his recruiting talents along with his status as the team’s co-offensive coordinator to help turn a fledgling football program into second-round playoff participants at the NCAA Division II level in four years. In addition to serving as SHU’s recruiting coordinator, Gasper was the Griffins’ passing game coordinator and charged with the instruction of the team’s quarterbacks and wide receivers. While at Seton Hill, he also earned his master’s degree in business administration in 2006.
Prior to one-year coaching stints at Bethany College in West Virginia (2003), Galesburg (Ill.) High School (2002) and St. Joseph’s College in Indiana (2001), Gasper’s coaching career in the United States began at his alma mater. Following his playing career as a four-year starting quarterback (1995-98) at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Gasper returned to the U.S. from a brief playing stint in Sweden to coach wide receivers and quarterbacks at WVWC in 1999 and 2000. During his one season (1999) playing professionally in Europe, Gasper quarterbacked and punted for the Orebro Black Knights in Sweden. In his player/coach role, he was named MVP of Sweden’s national championship game that season while also working as the team’s offensive coordinator.
In moving back to the U.S. to jumpstart his coaching career, Gasper was also able to divide two seasons (2001-02) playing quarterback in the Arena Football League’s developmental league, AF2.
Gasper’s quarterbacking skills and knowledge of the game developed greatly during his undergraduate days at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Capping his four-year career as the Bobcats’ starting signal-caller, Gasper earned first-team all-conference honors as a senior in 1998. Along with having held numerous school passing records at WVWC, Gasper also handled the team’s punting duties and placekicking chores. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in public relations with a minor in political science in 1998.
A native of Medina, Ohio, Gasper was a two-time All-Ohio and All-Pioneer Conference quarterback for Cloverleaf High School. Earlier this year, Gasper was elected to the Medina County Sports Hall of Fame.
