EMCC women’s basketball standout Chadisty Hickman, a two-time MACJC North Division First Team selection for head coach Sharon Thompson’s Lady Lions, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Lady Statesmen of Delta State University.
SCOOBA – For the second time in a week’s span, East Mississippi Community College is sending a student-athlete to Delta State University to continue her education and athletic playing career.  This week, EMCC women’s basketball standout Chadisty Hickman inked with the Lady Statesmen during a signing event held on the Scooba campus.

A week ago, Lady Lion softball catcher/third baseman Stormy Lewis, of Quitman, signed with Delta State.

Hickman, a product of Kemper County High School, was a two-time MACJC (Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges) All-North Division First Team selection for head coach Sharon Thompson’s EMCC Lady Lions.  This past year as a sophomore, Hickman led EMCC in scoring, assists and steals for the second straight season, averaging 14.0 points, 3.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game.  The Preston native also ranked third on this year’s Lady Lion squad with an average of 4.4 rebounds an outing in addition to making a team-high 28 three-point field goals.  The 5-foot-6 guard recently capped her EMCC career by participating in the MACJC Women’s Basketball All-Star Game in Decatur.

“It feels great,” Hickman said of the opportunity to join the tradition-rich Delta State women’s basketball program.  “The Delta State coaches made me feel comfortable and that they wanted me in their program.  They said I would make a big difference in their program.”

As a freshman during the 2010-11 campaign, Hickman topped the EMCC women in scoring (14.7 ppg), assists (3.9 apg) and steals (1.6 spg) to garner NJCAA All-Region 23 honors and make the MACJC All-North Division First Team.  She also averaged 3.8 rebounds an outing and ranked second on the club with 33 made 3-pointers as a collegiate rookie.

“Chadisty is a great kid from a great family,” EMCC’s Thompson noted.  “She is very talented and skilled, probably one of the most talented players in our conference with her skill level.  She’s a positive kid both on and off the court.  It speaks wonders about our program that our players here at EMCC have the opportunity to advance their education and playing career at the four-year level.”

In her two seasons as a 47-game starter on the Scooba campus, Hickman totaled 689 points (14.4 ppg), 198 rebounds (4.1 rpg), 182 assists (3.8 apg), 75 steals (1.6 spg) and 61 made 3-pointers.

“We are excited to have Chadisty as a part of the Lady Statesmen program,” Delta State women’s basketball coach Sandra Rushing added.  “She will give us the added depth we need at the guard position.”
