![]() Sophomores Chadisty Hickman (left) and Deon Bedford will represent East Mississippi Community College during Tuesday’s MACJC All-Star Basketball Games to be played on the East Central Community College campus in Decatur. Women’s action is slated to begin at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the men’s contest at 7 p.m. in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building on the ECCC campus. Admission is $5 per person. Both all-star basketball games will be video streamed live at www.holmesathletics.ihigh.com with Steve Diffey calling the play-by-play action. Hickman led head coach Sharon Thompson’s EMCC Lady Lions in scoring, assists and steals for the second straight season, averaging 14.0 points, 3.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game to repeat as an MACJC All-North Division First Team recipient. The former Kemper County High School product also ranked third on this year’s EMCC team with an average of 4.4 rebounds an outing in addition to making a team-high 28 three-point field goals. As a freshman during the 2010-11 season, Hickman topped the EMCC women in scoring (14.7 ppg), assists (3.9 apg) and steals (1.6 spg) to garner NJCAA All-Region 23 honors and make the MACJC All-North Division First Team. She also averaged 3.8 rebounds and ranked second on the team with 33 made 3-pointers as a collegiate rookie. Bedford averaged 8.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, while shooting an improved 46 percent from the field and 76 percent from the line, primarily in a sixth-man role for head coach Mark White’s 23-6 EMCC Lions this past season. An integral part of EMCC’s three-time NJCAA Region 23 and MACJC North Division championship clubs, Bedford was named to this year’s NJCAA Region 23 All-Tournament Team after scoring 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting and grabbing eight rebounds, including five offensive boards, in EMCC’s 63-49 championship-game victory over Southern University at Shreveport (La.). Bedford, a product of West Oktibbeha County High School, averaged 5.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest as a freshman for the 25-5 EMCC Lions. He also ranked third on the 2010-11 squad with 25 made 3-pointers. |
