SCOOBA – Riding a two-game win streak, the East Mississippi Community College women’s basketball team tips off the 2012 calendar year by playing host to 15th-ranked Shelton State Community College Thursday evening on the Scooba campus. Game time for the single contest is set for 6 p.m. at EMCC’s Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.
With consecutive victories over reigning NJCAA Tournament participant Wallace State-Hanceville (63-62 on Dec. 10) and division foe Northwest Mississippi CC (71-56 on Dec. 5) prior to the holiday break, head coach Sharon Thompson’s EMCC Lady Lions resume hardwood action with a 3-6 overall record. EMCC, 2-0 at home this season, is also 1-1 in MACJC North Division play on the year. The Lady Bucs of Shelton State are 10-2 on the campaign, including a 93-55 home victory over East Mississippi CC back on Nov. 14 in Tuscaloosa. SSCC’s only losses on the year have come away from home to Northwest Florida State (67-62) and Pensacola State (89-76), nationally ranked second and fifth, respectively, in the NJCAA’s most recent Top 20 national poll. East Mississippi Community College will resume doubleheader hoops action next week on the road, as head coach Mark White’s 7-2 EMCC Lions will accompany the Lady Lions at East Central CC and at Meridian CC on Tuesday (Jan. 10) and Thursday (Jan. 12), respectively. |
