| EMCC Lions close out pre-holiday hoops slate with 112-61 home win over Southern Sports Academy |

SCOOBA – With seven players scoring in double figures, the Lions of East Mississippi Community College closed out the pre-holiday portion of their basketball schedule with a 112-61 home victory over Southern Sports Academy Thursday evening at EMCC’s Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.
Now 7-2 on the season, head coach Mark White’s EMCC Lions had previously opened the current campaign with a 135-69 home triumph over the same Jackson-based squad back on Nov. 2. In the rematch, the home-standing Lions bolted to a double-digit lead six minutes into the contest and increased the margin to a 52-21 halftime bulge. The lead grew to 40 points (80-40) by the 9:40 mark on a Millaun Brown inside feed from Colin Borchert. Sophomore point guard D.J. Evans put the winners into triple digits with a driving basket to make it 100-55 with 2:55 left in the game. Hitting 7-of-11 shots from the field, sophomore Deon Bedford tallied 15 of his career-high 19 points in the opening half to lead the Lions. The former West Oktibbeha County standout also had eight rebounds and four assists. Borchert, a transfer forward from Phoenix, Ariz., recorded his second double-double of the season with 17 points and a season-high 16 rebounds. He also added five steals and three assists. In the backcourt, sophomore Dione Milsap, of Yazoo City, came off the EMCC bench to contribute a career-best 14 points, including 4-of-7 accuracy from beyond the three-point arc. Evans, of Brandon, added 13 points, five assists and three steals to the winning effort. Southern Sports Academy was led by Xavier Roy’s game-high 21 points, while Roman Machiroux followed with 15 points. The EMCC Lions return to action on Jan. 10 at East Central.
