SCOOBA – Three East Mississippi Community College baseball players have been honored with MACJC All-State recognition following this week’s annual meeting of the head baseball coaches from the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) in Jackson.

For first-year head coach Chris Rose’s EMCC Lions, sophomore second baseman Tyler Aldridge was East Mississippi’s representative on the MACJC All-State First Team, while fellow sophomores Mitch Bohon and Kameron Heiser collected second-team accolades for the MACJC’s North Division.

A product of Caledonia High School, Aldridge hit a team-high .338 this past season in addition to leading or co-leading the Lions with 23 runs batted in, 28 runs scored, 13 doubles and two triples.  Ranking second on the club with three home runs, he also led EMCC with 18 extra-base hits on the year.  Along with rating second on the team with his .406 on-base percentage, Aldridge was 8-of-10 in the stolen base department and fielded at a .940 clip for the Lions.

A former standout at Oak Hill Academy, Bohon topped EMCC with seven home runs for the second straight season.  While hitting an even .300 on the year, Bohon paced the Lions with his .425 on-base percentage, including 18 walks and eight hit by pitches.  In addition to stealing nine bases in 11 attempts, Bohon did not commit an error in 221 chances while playing first base this past season.

Despite missing three weeks of the season due to an appendectomy in late March, Heiser posted a 3-3 pitching record with a team-best 2.61 ERA and club-high three saves.  The former West Lauderdale High School product allowed only 47 hits in 48.1 innings of work, while striking out 35 batters and issuing just 13 walks on the campaign.  Heiser capped his two-year EMCC career with a masterful complete-game victory over eventual state champion Jones County to force a decisive third game in the Lions’ recent best-of-three MACJC state playoff series against the 12th-ranked Bobcats.

As a team, the EMCC Lions made their first baseball playoff appearance since 2004 after compiling the program’s best division mark (14-10) since the 1998 season.  After a slow 1-18 start on the year, East Mississippi rebounded to put together a 17-29 overall record in 2011.
