BROOKHAVEN – The East Mississippi Community College men’s golf team recorded a solid third-place team finish Monday during the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College’s second spring event hosted by Copiah-Lincoln.

After finishing Sunday’s first round at Wolf Hollow Golf Club tied for second place with host Co-Lin at 315, head coach Dale Peay’s EMCC Lions carded a final-round 304 at Brookhaven Country Club to finish just three strokes behind three-time defending NJCAA Region 23 champion Mississippi Gulf Coast (320-296--616).  The host Wolfpack rallied with a 299 Monday to take team honors by two strokes over the Bulldogs.  First-round team leader Jones County finished fourth (306-314--620) in the 10-team event.

Individually, MGCCC’s Jared Smith claimed medalist honors with a two-day score of 147 (74-73) to finish four shots better than a foursome of golfers, including EMCC sophomore Ian McAdams.  A former Madison Central standout, McAdams followed an opening-round 77 with a 74 Monday to claim co-runner-up honors and earn all-tournament accolades for the Lions.

Lion freshman Weston Wallace, of Northwest Rankin, tied for 11th place at 154 (79-75), while fellow freshman Andrew Spiers, of Pearl River Central, finished in an 18th-place tie (79-77—156) in his EMCC debut after recovering from a broken arm.  Caledonia’s Zack Bailey (80-78—158) and fellow sophomore Jackson Bryant (81-79—160) followed at 24th and 31st, respectively, to round out East Mississippi’s scorecard.  Competing as an individual, former Northwest Rankin product Bobby Bowlin tied for 20th place with a 157 total (82-75).

The MACJC’s third golf event of the spring campaign will be hosted by Northwest Mississippi Community College on March 21-22.  First-round play is slated to be held at North Creek in Southaven with final-day action set for Wedgewood in Olive Branch.
