TEXARKANA, Ark. – The East Mississippi Community College men’s rodeo team opened the spring season with a fourth-place finish at the inaugural Cossatot Community College rodeo event completed Saturday at the Four States Fairgrounds and Rodeo Arena.

In the first event of the Ozark Region’s 2011 four-event spring rodeo slate, the EMCC Lions collected 470 team points to finish just 10 points behind third-place Southern Arkansas University.  Missouri Valley College bested Murray State University, 620-535, to claim the men’s title, while Tennessee-Martin easily out-distanced Troy University, 515-295, to earn the women’s victory.

The EMCC Lions racked up 280 team points with a one-two finish in the bull riding competition.  Michael Campbell, of Bay Minette, Ala., collected 180 points with the victory, followed by Kosciusko’s Winston Cheek earning 100 points for his second-place finish in the event.

East Mississippi also picked up 110 team points in steer wrestling, as former Oak Hill Academy standout Will Lummus and East Webster’s Carson Bright earned 70 and 40 points, respectively.  Former Noxubee County High School product D.D.
