Tonight's EMCC-Mississippi Delta basketball games in Moorhead postponed until Saturday Print E-mail
SCOOBA – Due to continued freezing temperatures and potential hazardous driving conditions, tonight’s East Mississippi-Mississippi Delta basketball games scheduled for Moorhead have been postponed until Saturday.  Game times for Saturday’s makeup hoops doubleheader will be 1 and 3 p.m. at MDCC’s newly renovated J.T. Hall Coliseum.

With just one full week of regular-season hoops action remaining before the start of the 2011 MACJC State Basketball Tournament (Feb. 21-24), both EMCC basketball teams are riding current winning streaks heading into this weekend’s makeup action.  The 11th-ranked Lions have already clinched at least a share of their second straight MACJC North Division championship, while the Lady Lions are just a half-game behind current first-place Itawamba in the women’s standings.

Now 18-2 overall and a perfect 9-0 in division play, head coach Mark White’s EMCC Lions will bring a current eight-game win string into Saturday’s makeup contest at Mississippi Delta.  The ICC Indians, 5-3 in league action, are slated to play at rival Northeast Mississippi, currently 6-4 within the division, Saturday in a rescheduled battle for second place in the MACJC’s North Division race.

Winners of five straight contests, head coach Sharon Thompson’s EMCC Lady Lions are 12-7 overall and 7-2 in the division.  Heading into Saturday’s makeup action, the Itawamba women are 7-1 atop the MACJC’s North Division standings.  Second-place EMCC is presently followed by Holmes (5-4), Northeast (5-5) and Northwest (4-5).

East Mississippi’s scheduled regular-season home finale is set for Thursday (Feb. 17) against Coahoma Community College.  Featuring ‘Sophomore Night’ pregame activities, tip-off times are set for 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at EMCC’s Keyes T. Currie Coliseum on the Scooba campus.
