Head coach Dale Peay’s EMCC golf team will tee off the 2011 spring season during a two-day MACJC tournament (Feb. 6-7) hosted by Mississippi Gulf Coast CC at The Oaks Golf Club in Pass Christian.
SCOOBA – The East Mississippi Community College men’s golf team is set to tee off the spring season Sunday in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College’s first event of the 2011 campaign to be held at The Oaks Golf Club in Pass Christian.

In the first of four MACJC regular-season events scheduled for this spring, EMCC head golf coach Dale Peay’s EMCC Lions will join other in-state schools during the two-day tournament hosted by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Beginning his sixth season at EMCC’s golf helm, Peay fields an eight-man roster with three sophomores and five freshmen to start the year.  Sophomore Jackson Bryant, of Natchez, is back for his second season with the Lions after earning a berth in last year’s NJCAA Region 23 Golf Championship.  Also returning for East Mississippi is former Madison Central standout Ian McAdams.

A pair of freshmen helped lead the way for the Lions during the fall, as former Northwest Rankin High School teammates Weston Wallace and Bobby Bowlin maintained team-leading stroke averages of 74.8 and 75, respectively, during fall competition.  Bowlin capped his fall campaign by earning the Henry W. “Buddy” Faulkner Excellence in Golf Award during EMCC’s World Class Fall Golf Tour.  During the highly competitive fall team event, named in honor of the late EMCC alumnus Buddy Faulkner, Bowlin shot a final-round 73 on the last day of the tour to secure the coveted individual award.

This year’s EMCC squad also features former Caledonia High School teammates Zack Bailey, a sophomore, and freshman Zac Taylor.  Rounding out the Lions’ 2011 golf roster will be freshman Tyler Slocum, of DeSoto Central High School, and fellow frosh Andrew Spiers.  A product of Pearl River Central High School, Spiers will be unable to compete during the early portion of the spring schedule after sustaining a broken arm.

The remaining portion of the MACJC’s 2011 spring golf schedule will include tournaments at Wesson/Brookhaven (March 6-7), Southaven/Olive Branch (March 21-22) and Starkville (April 3-4).  The MACJC’s fourth event of the regular season will be hosted by East Mississippi Community College at the Mississippi State University Golf Course during the first weekend of April.  The 2011 MACJC State Championship, hosted by Holmes CC, will be held April 11-12 at the Deerfield Golf Course in Canton.
