| Six EMCC football standouts to compete in Saturday's MACJC All-Star Classic in Booneville |

SCOOBA – Six members of East Mississippi Community College’s state football playoff team are slated to participate in Saturday’s 37th annual MACJC All-Star Classic to be played at Northeast Mississippi CC in Booneville. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at NEMCC’s Tiger Stadium.
From their nationally rated offensive unit, head coach Buddy Stephens’ 5-5 EMCC Lions will be represented by NJCAA All-Region 23 quarterback Brad Henderson and running back Floyd Graves. A former Starkville High School standout, Henderson ranks second among this year’s NJCAA statistical leaders with an average of 276.3 passing yards per game and third nationally with 26 touchdown passes. For the season, Henderson completed 60 percent of his aerials (232-of-388) for 2,763 yards and only seven interceptions. Graves, formerly of Newton County High School, rushed for 374 yards on 86 carries with six touchdowns as a sophomore for the Lions, in addition to hauling in 22 receptions for 197 yards and a scoring grab. Defensively, East Mississippi will be represented by linebacker Jimmy Roby, defensive lineman Cleveland Shelton as well as defensive backs Kevin Roberts and Deangelo White. Hailing from Noxubee County, Roby was EMCC’s second-leading tackler this season with 81 total stops, while Shelton, a former East Oktibbeha High School product, was credited with 59 total tackles on the year, including five tackles for loss and two sacks. White, a Charleston native, and Roberts, of Meridian High School, had 51 and 30 total stops, respectively, along with being credited with four pass breakups apiece this year. Featuring standouts from 13 of the state’s 14 schools affiliated with the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC), the football all-star contest annually serves as a talent showcase for community college sophomores to practice and perform in a competitive environment in front of coaches from four-year schools. Seventh-ranked and state champion Mississippi Gulf Coast will sit out this year’s all-star contest due to honoring its commitment as the state’s representative in Sunday’s Mississippi Bowl against No. 3 Grand Rapids (Mich.) CC to be played in Biloxi. Itawamba Community College’s Jon Williams and his staff will coach the North Division All-Stars, while Eddie Pierce and his Jones County assistants will guide the South squad. With the South All-Stars having prevailed each of the past two seasons, including last year’s 28-0 victory, the overall all-star series record presently stands at 17-17 with two ties. |
