| EMCC's Henderson and Dial receive NJCAA All-Region 23 football honors |

 EMCC sophomores Brad Henderson (left) and Quinton Dial have been named to the 2010 NJCAA All-Region 23 football team, while four other Lion players have also earned MACJC All-North Division honors. A product of Starkville High School, Henderson was also voted by the league’s head coaches as the MVP among the offensive backs of the MACJC’s North Division in addition to sharing All-Region 23 quarterbacking honors with Region 23 MVP Melvin German of Pearl River. Henderson presently ranks third nationally in passing yards per game (276.3 yds/gm) as well as total offense per contest (308.3 yds/gm). Having completed 60 percent (232-of-388) of his aerials for 2,763 yards this season, the 6-foot, 215-pound signal-caller also stands second among the NJCAA’s statistical leaders with 26 touchdown passes. A 6-foot-6, 325-pound defensive lineman for the EMCC Lions, Dial ranked third on the team with 76 total tackles (46 solos & 30 assists) this past year, including four tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. A University of Alabama commitment that prepped at Clay-Chalkville High School, Dial also had two pass breakups, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery as a sophomore. Joining Henderson and Dial on this year’s MACJC All-North Division First Team were EMCC sophomore safety Perrance Ward of West Point and freshman offensive lineman Warren Jones of Noxubee County High School. A former West Point High School product, Ward is tied for sixth nationally with five pass interceptions on the year. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound defensive standout was also credited with 62 total tackles (44 solos & 18 assists) and five pass breakups as a sophomore along with returning a fumble 66 yards for a touchdown against Coahoma. Rounding out this year’s football honorees for head coach Buddy Stephens’ 5-5 East Mississippi Lions, freshman offensive lineman Gussie Lane of Noxubee County and sophomore linebacker Donnelli Johnson of East Oktibbeha High School collected 2010 MACJC All-North Division Second Team plaudits. A 6-foot-2, 200-pound Starkville native, Johnson led EMCC defenders with 107 total tackles (71 solos & 36 assists) this season, including five tackles for loss and a pair of pass breakups. As a freshman in 2008, Johnson was EMCC’s third-leading tackler on the year with 102 total stops (55 solos & 47 assists), including three sacks and five other tackles for loss. |
