|EMCC men's rodeo team places fifth in Southern Arkansas-hosted event|
SCOOBA – In their second competition of the fall campaign, the East Mississippi Community College men’s rodeo team placed fifth at last week’s Southern Arkansas University Intercollegiate Rodeo held at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in Magnolia, Ark.
With six performers advancing to the short go competition on the men’s side, head coach Morgan Goodrich’s EMCC Lions totaled 257.5 points to finish just behind host Southern Arkansas (260 points). For the second straight week, Missouri Valley College claimed the men’s team competition with 995 points, ahead of runner-up Tennessee-Martin (450 points) and West Alabama (327.5).
Individually for the EMCC men, the tandem of Carson Bright (East Webster HS) and Taylor White (Oak Hill Academy) pulled in 160 points with a third-place finish in the team roping event. Though not generating team points for the Lions, the duo of Jesse Rush (Kemper Academy) and Eric Ford (New Hope HS) placed seventh in team roping. Additionally, Jake Pollard (West Point HS) and D.D. Hunt (Noxubee County HS) earned sixth-place showings in the calf roping and steer wrestling events, respectively.
For the East Mississippi women’s squad, freshman A. Jae Buckley of Prentiss placed sixth in breakaway roping to earn EMCC a seventh-place team finish on the women’s side. Also for the second consecutive week, Tennessee-Martin captured the women’s team title with 335 points, followed by host Southern Arkansas (293.3 points) and Missouri Valley (285).
The EMCC rodeo squad heads to Livingston, Ala., to participate in this week’s 14th Annual UWA Rodeo Showdown. Hosted by the University of West Alabama, the three-day event (Oct. 7-9) will be held at UWA’s Don C. Hines Rodeo Complex. Rodeo action is set to begin nightly at 7:30 p.m., and the cost for admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for children.
