.jpg "Image") Chris Rose, a two-time MACJC Coach of the Year honoree and 2009 NJCAA Region 23 Coach of the Year recipient, has been named the new head baseball coach at East Mississippi Community College. Rose takes over EMCC’s baseball coaching duties after spending the past five seasons as head baseball coach at Meridian Community College. With a five-year career coaching mark of 186-93, Rose guided the MCC Eagles to MACJC State Championships in 2008 and 2006 as well as an NJCAA Region 23 Championship in 2009. This past season, the 32-19 Eagles claimed the Miss-Lou Conference title and were NJCAA Region 23 runners-up. During his stint as head coach, MCC also captured MACJC Central Division crowns three straight seasons (2006-08). “I’m ecstatic about the opportunity to guide the baseball program here at East Mississippi,” Rose said. “I’ve been very impressed with the institutional commitment shown by Dr. (Rick) Young and his administrative staff toward the athletics program and students in general. I’m excited about being a part of something special here at EMCC, and we’re ready to hit the ground running.” With a career .667 winning percentage, Rose garnered 2009 NJCAA Region 23 Coach of the Year honors along with earning MACJC Coach of the Year laurels in 2008 and 2006. He also collected Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) Coach of the Year recognition in 2008. Noted as one of the top recruiters in the region, Rose tutored six NJCAA All-Americans at Meridian CC, including 2007 National Player of the Year Tyler Moore. His recruiting talents first began to receive notice at MCC as an assistant coach under former head coach Chad Caillet. Serving as the Eagles’ pitching/catching coach and recruiting coordinator during the 2004-05 academic year, Rose was instrumental in landing a dozen all-state signees, including Player of the Year honorees from the states of Mississippi and Louisiana as well as Canada’s No. 2-rated prospect. Elevated to MCC’s head coaching position in the fall of 2005, Rose also had an impact on Meridian’s baseball program off the field. During his five-year stay as the school’s head baseball coach, the Eagles maintained a 3.05 composite team grade point average. Rose was also instrumental in establishing and supervising MCC’s Dugout Club organization. Prior to coming to Meridian in 2004, Rose served three seasons (2002-04) as the pitching/catching coach and recruiting coordinator at his alma mater, the University of Mobile in Alabama. A former four-year letterman as a catcher for UM, Rose also assisted head coach Mike Jacobs with hitting responsibilities during his coaching tenure. UM’s initial recruiting class under Rose’s supervision produced five All-American honorees. In addition, the Rams topped the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference’s pitching statistical leaders in team earned run average all three seasons under his guidance. Following his playing career at the University of Mobile, Rose stayed onboard at his alma mater working as an admissions counselor in addition to serving as a volunteer baseball coach. He earned his bachelor’s degree from UM in business communication. A native of Ohio, Rose is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and is an active member of the Baseball Factory coaching organization. He has also served as a camp coordinator for Mississippi State’s high school and pitcher/catcher camps. Most recently, Rose received an honorary membership into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Rose is married to the former Dana Jones of Demopolis, Ala., and they are the parents of two daughters, Peyton, 10, and Madeline, 7, and one son, Cy, 5. Rose succeeds Columbus native Tony Montgomery, who compiled a four-year composite record of 83-110 at EMCC, including a 23-25 mark this past season. |
