EMCC's CoCo Ware Named NJCAA First Team All-American Print E-mail
SCOOBA – East Mississippi’s sophomore standout CoCo Ware has capped one of the finest athletic careers in school history by being named to the 2009-10 NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball All-American First Team.  The 10-man, first-team squad was selected this week by the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee at the 2010 NJCAA Annual Meeting held in Colorado Springs, Colo.

A former standout at Starkville High School, Ware ranked among the national leaders in scoring (19.4 ppg) and steals (2.5 spg) for the second straight year as a sophomore, in addition to rating as EMCC’s second-leading rebounder (5.9 rpg) and No. 2 playmaker (2.3 apg).  In being tabbed NJCAA All-Region 23 and MACJC All-North State First Team for the second consecutive season, the 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard helped spark the 27-7 Lions to their school-first NJCAA Tournament appearance after claiming the NJCAA Region 23 championship and capturing the MACJC North Division regular-season crown.  The 2009-10 EMCC squad also finished as state runners-up to Pearl River.

Having started all 62 games of his East Mississippi career in helping lead head coach Mark White’s EMCC Lions to a two-year composite record of 44-18, Ware totaled 1,196 career points (19.3 ppg), 382 rebounds (6.2 rpg), 168 steals (2.7 spg) and 120 assists (1.9 apg).  He also shot 45 percent overall from the field, including 126 career made 3-pointers, and 72 percent from the free-throw line during his two-year playing career on the Scooba campus.
