| EMCC golf team places season-best second at Copiah-Lincoln event |

BROOKHAVEN –The East Mississippi golf team earned a season-best, second-place finish in the year’s third MACJC event hosted by Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
With two EMCC golfers finishing the two-day event ranked among the tournament’s top five individual scorers, head coach Dale Peay’s Lions finished two strokes better than both Northeast Mississippi and host Co-Lin with a composite score of 601 (299-302). Taking three of the top four individual slots, the two-time defending NJCAA Region 23 champions of Mississippi Gulf Coast claimed their third team title in as many MACJC events this spring by outdistancing the field with a 10-over-par 578 (290-288) to win by 23 strokes. Freshman Ian McAdams, a former Madison Central product, led the way for East Mississippi with a third-place individual finish after carding a 3-over-par 145 (72-73). Following close behind, EMCC sophomore Michael Lauseng, of Bossier City, La., tied for fifth place individually with Northwest Mississippi’s Grant Goforth at 5-over-par 147 with scores of 72 and 75. With Monday’s action being played at Co-Lin’s 6,745-yard Wolf Hollow course and Tuesday’s second-round play being held at the 6,319-yard Brookhaven Country Club, Gulf Coast’s Richie Williams took individual medalist honors with a 4-under-par total of 138 (69-69). MGCCC teammate Brandon Herrington was runner-up at 144 (74-70) for the two days. EMCC sophomore Trey Adams of Belmont finished in a five-way tie for 13th place with a two-round score of 151 (76-75). Fellow sophomores Will Black of Calhoun City and Brandon’s Garrett Alford rounded out East Mississippi’s team scorecard with 37th (80-79—159) and 45th-place (79-86—165) showings, respectively. Lion freshman Reed Aldridge, out of Mooreville High School, tied for 30th (78-79—157) while competing as an individual. The fourth and final regular-season MACJC spring event is slated to be co-hosted by Northeast Mississippi and Itawamba, March 29-30, at Corinth’s Shiloh Ridge Golf Course and River Birch Golf Club in Amory. |
