EMCC Lions conclude Arkansas road trip with two more baseball wins Print E-mail
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The EMCC Lions concluded a successful three-day baseball road trip in Arkansas by claiming a 7-3 win over Illinois Central along with earning a 6-4 victory over Arkansas Baptist Saturday afternoon in Little Rock.

In Saturday’s first game, sophomore right-hander Corey Luke earned the victory in throwing four innings for the Lions.  Heidelberg’s Derek Beach smacked a pair of doubles, while Tyler Aldridge of Caledonia and Columbus’ Drew Vaughan also went 2-for-3 at the plate in the opener against Central Illinois.  Freshman Mitch Bohon, a former Oak Hill Academy standout, hit his third home run of the campaign.

Vaughan, a product of Heritage Academy, proved to be the hitting star in the nightcap by capping a 3-for-4 outing with a game-winning, two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning.  He also added a pair of singles and drove in three runs in the second contest.  Sophomore Alex Lummus, another Oak Hill Academy product, continued his hot hitting by launching his second round-tripper in as many days, along with adding a double.  Hilton Gibson, a former New Hope High School standout, went 2-for-4 against Arkansas Baptist.

Sophomore right-hander Cody Pounders, also of New Hope, improved to 2-0 on the year by striking out five in 3.1 innings of work in relief of starter Drew Esslinger.

Head coach Tony Montgomery’s EMCC Lions improved to 6-2 on the year by going 5-1 on the three-day Arkansas road trip.  East Mississippi will be on the road in neighboring Alabama for a pair of doubleheaders this coming week, taking on Faulkner State Tuesday in Bay Minette and traveling to Mobile to meet Bishop State on Wednesday.
