EMCC claims pair of baseball wins Friday in Arkansas Print E-mail
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The East Mississippi baseball team swept its first doubleheader of the 2010 campaign Friday afternoon by claiming a 13-3 win over Arkansas Baptist College before posting a 6-5 victory over North Arkansas College in the nightcap.

In Friday’s opener, sophomore right-hander Tyler Richardson, a former West Lauderdale product who has signed with North Alabama, struck out five and gave up five hits in five innings of work to pick up the victory for the Lions.  Sophomore Alex Lummus, of Oak Hill Academy, paced EMCC’s hitters with three hits in the opener, including a home run.  Caledonia’s Tyler Aldridge, Hilton Gibson and Brandon Kiewel added two hits apiece in the first game.

Sophomore southpaw Derek Beach stood out both on the mound and at the plate in the nightcap, as the Heidelberg native scattered seven hits and struck out seven batters over six innings to earn the win.  The versatile left-hander also went 3-for-4 as a hitter in the contest, including a pair of doubles.  Lummus enjoyed another three-hit outing in the second game by stroking three singles.  Gibson, a former New Hope High School standout, added a round-tripper.

Head coach Tony Montgomery’s 4-2 EMCC Lions are scheduled to stay in Little Rock to take on North Arkansas in a Saturday doubleheader.
