| EMCC readies to host next week's MACJC State Basketball Tournament |

![]() Keyes T. Currie Coliseum on the Scooba campus will be the site of next week’s (Feb. 22-25) MACJC State Basketball Tournament. Men’s first-round action will begin on Monday with game times set for noon, 2 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., while women’s opening-round play will take place Tuesday at the same times. Winners of 13 of their last 14 decisions dating back to the start of December, including a current seven-game winning streak, the Lions received a total of 184 voting points in this week’s NJCAA Division I men’s basketball poll to obtain EMCC’s first-ever Top 10 national ranking on the men’s side. Top-ranked and undefeated Harcum College heads this week’s NJCAA Division I men’s rankings, followed by No. 2 Midland College, third-ranked Howard College, No. 4 Connors State College and fifth-ranked Wallace State-Hanceville. Having clinched the North Division’s top men’s seed in next week’s (Feb. 22-25) EMCC-hosted MACJC State Basketball Tournament with a 10-1 league mark, the Lions will travel to Booneville with the EMCC women’s team to close out the regular-season slate with a Thursday road doubleheader against Northeast Mississippi. Head coach Sharon Thompson’s 13-11 Lady Lions have also secured a spot in next week’s state tournament in Scooba with a 7-4 divisional record. Hosted by East Mississippi Community College at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum, next week’s MACJC State Basketball Tournament will tip off Monday (Feb. 22) with men’s first-round competition beginning at noon. Games will follow at 2 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., highlighted by EMCC’s 7:30 p.m. men’s contest against the South’s No. 4 seed. Women’s opening-round action will take over on Tuesday with identical game times, capped by the Lady Lions’ 7:30 p.m. contest in the nightcap. Semifinal-round play will take place on Wednesday with women’s contests set for noon and 5:30 p.m., and men’s games slated for 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The women’s championship will be played at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, followed by the 7:30 p.m. men’s title contest. Admission into next week’s EMCC-hosted MACJC State Basketball Tournament will be $5 per day for all school-aged children and adults. Children 5 years of age and younger will be admitted free of charge. A $15 all-tournament pass for the week-long basketball event on the East Mississippi campus will also be available during the tournament. |
