Ware's career-high 38 points lead EMCC to 99-58 home win over MMI Print E-mail
SCOOBA –- Preseason NJCAA All-American CoCo Ware pumped in a career-high 38 points to lead the East Mississippi men’s basketball team to a 99-58 home win over Marion Military Institute Saturday afternoon at EMCC’s Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.

Chosen to the Preseason NJCAA All-American Second Team, Ware scored 27 of his 38 points during the opening half of play, including four first-half 3-pointers.  The former Starkville High School standout’s previous EMCC scoring high was 34 points in last year’s 94-91 overtime home victory over eventual state champion Jones County.  In addition, Ware was coming off a 27-point effort in the Lions’ 72-64 triumph at Northwest Mississippi during Thursday’s MACJC North Division opener.

Freshman Donovan Walker, a former Meridian High School product, followed with a season-high 18 points, including 13 in the second half.  Fellow freshmen Jonathan King and Marino Thompson were also in double digits with 15 and 11 points, respectively.  First-year playmaker Anthony Alexander of Nashville added nine points for the winners.

With the sizeable 41-point home victory over Marion Military, head coach Mark White’s 10-2 Lions reached double figures for wins on the season, which also includes an 82-62 triumph at MMI last month in the year’s first meeting.  The EMCC men are undefeated in four tries against Alabama-based schools this season.

Both East Mississippi basketball teams resume North Division action Monday by playing host to Coahoma at Currie Coliseum on the Scooba campus.  The 5:30 p.m. women’s contest will be followed by a 7:30 p.m. men’s game.
