J’Quandra Hickman of Meridian High School has become the 12th softball signee of the current recruiting period for head coach Kate Neely’s EMCC Lady Lions.
SCOOBA – J’Quandra Hickman has become the second player from Meridian High School’s state runner-up slow-pitch softball team to sign a national letter of intent with East Mississippi Community College.  Hickman signed with head coach Kate Neely’s EMCC Lady Lions on Wednesday and will join former MHS teammate Shakari Stribling on the Scooba campus this fall.

A five-year starter for the Lady Wildcats, Hickman batted .327 this past fast-pitch season for head coach Susan Frazier to earn All-Division 5-5A honors for the third consecutive season.  Last fall during the slow-pitch season, Hickman hit .422 with a team-high 32 runs batted in and club-most 13 extra-base hits to help pace Meridian to the Class 5A South State championship and state runner-up finish for the second consecutive year.

Having played catcher, short stop, second base and third base at various times throughout her high school career, Hickman enjoyed a productive junior campaign by hitting at a .522 clip during the fast-pitch season with team-high totals in RBI (34) and extra-base hits (15).  Her numbers were equally impressive during the fall’s slow-pitch season, as the versatile right-hander batted .513 with club-best marks of 49 runs batted in and 16 extra-base hits.  In helping lead the Lady Wildcats to the team’s first of two straight Class 5 South State championships and state runner-up finishes in slow-pitch competition, Hickman collected MHS’s Offensive MVP Award as a junior in 2007.

Along with former prep teammate Stribling, Hickman joins previously announced EMCC softball signees Nashedra Barry (Columbus HS), Leigh Ellen Barefield (Neshoba Central HS), Megan Ladner (Poplarville HS), Chelsea Theriot (Poplarville HS), DeShuni Sanders (Hew Hope HS), Mallory Pace (Northeast Lauderdale HS), Justine Jenkins (Caledonia HS), Katie Newman (Oak Hill Academy), Courtney Castleberry (Clarkdale HS), and Celeste Fontenot (Brusly [La.] HS).
