SCOOBA – Tyler Pounders of Caledonia High School and Columbus High School’s Mike Hayward have signed national letters of intent to attend East Mississippi Community College, as announced Friday by EMCC soccer coach Junior Noel.

A midfielder/defender, Pounders scored five goals and had four assists to collect all-district and team MVP honors as a senior for the 14-5 Confederates.  The 6-foot-1, 190-pound performer becomes the fourth member off head coach Morgan Mansfield’s Class 4A North State runner-up squad to sign with EMCC, joining Taylor Chisolm and Seth Wood along with Lions baseball signee Tyler Aldridge.  The three-year soccer starter also hit .380 with four home runs and 18 runs batted it as Caledonia’s starting shortstop this past spring.

A four-year starter at Columbus, Hayward led head coach Richard Martin’s 11-10 Falcons with 13 goals and 11 assists as a senior in claiming the team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player Award for the second straight year.  The 5-foot-9, 150-pound midfielder/forward tallied nine scores as a junior.  Hayward also lettered four years in tennis for the Falcons.

In addition to Pounders’ Caledonia teammates Chisolm and Wood, EMCC has also previously signed Eduardo Fumo of Starkville, Steven Geraci of DeSoto Central, Brandon’s Brian Meza, James Nichols of Northwest Rankin, Saltillo’s Josh Harden, Justin Knight of Quitman, and Heidelberg Academy’s Corey Devun.
