Deon Bedford of West Oktibbeha County High School has become the latest addition to head coach Mark White’s EMCC basketball recruiting class.
SCOOBA – All-district guard Deon Bedford of West Oktibbeha County High School has signed a national letter of intent to attend East Mississippi Community College, as announced Thursday by EMCC men’s basketball coach Mark White.

A three-year starter for the Timberwolves, Bedford averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three blocks per game as a senior in leading head coach Joseph Landfair’s WOCHS club to a 14-13 overall record and District 4-1A regular-season championship.  In earning all-district honors for the second consecutive year, the 6-foot-4, 170-pound backcourt performer posted single-game scoring highs of 33 points against West Point and 28 versus West Lowndes.  He also turned in 26-point efforts against Eupora and Kosciusko.

“Deon is a very talented and athletic player with a lot of upside,” White said.  “We know he is a great kid who will work extremely hard.  We really like his potential as a contributing player in our program.”

As a junior, Bedford averaged a team-leading 16 points an outing to earn all-district and team MVP laurels for the Timberwolves.  He scored a career-high 38 points against New Hope during the 2007-08 season.

Bedford joins previously announced EMCC men’s basketball signees Chris Brand and Jeff Jernagin of Starkville High School, Jonathan King of Panama, Deonte Alexander of Nashville’s Glencliff High School, Meridian High School’s Donovan Walker, and Joe McCoy of Raymond High School.
