| Gulfport guard Monique Spencer chooses EMCC Lady Lions |

![]() Monique Spencer of Gulfport High School has become the 13th women’s basketball signee of the current recruiting period for EMCC women’s basketball coach Sharon Thompson. A 5-foot-7 backcourt performer, Spencer led head coach Otis Gates’ Lady Admirals in scoring at 10.9 points per game this past season. Along with averaging 2.1 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.1 assists an outing as a senior, Spencer topped GHS with 20 made 3-pointers and connected on a team-best 75 percent of her free throws to earn All-District 8-5A laurels and receive the club’s Most Improved Player Award. Spencer transferred to Gulfport High School prior to her senior year after having previously attended Harrison Central High School, where she starred on the basketball court as well as in track and field as a sprinter and relay participant. Spencer joins previously announced EMCC women’s basketball signees Skylar Barnes (South Panola HS), Keyetta Buckhalter (Noxubee County HS), Shanteria Tate (Noxubee County HS), RoTasha Windom (Kemper County HS), Shavantis Thomas (Oxford HS), Keyosha Robinson (Southeast Lauderdale HS), Alvionna Knox (Weir HS), Natalie Tate (Columbus HS), Nashedra Barry (Columbus HS), Shelby Crawford (Thomasville [Ala.] HS), Rickeisha Bryant (Homestead [Fla.] Sr. HS), and Malashia Chandler (Atlanta’s Westlake HS). |
