![]() Shelby Crawford of Thomasville, Ala., has become the third out-of-state signee to join the EMCC women’s basketball program. A 6-foot-1 forward, Crawford posted team-high averages of 12.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game as a senior in helping lead head coach Curtis Lane’s 18-6 Lady Tigers to a regional runner-up finish. She also averaged 2.6 assists and 2.4 steals an outing, while shooting 51 percent from the field and 78 percent from the charity stripe. Her single-game highs this past season included 23 points against Jackson and 16 rebounds versus Andalusia. For her efforts this past year, Crawford was named the team’s most valuable player, in addition to earning Thomasville’s Hustle Award and Rebound Award during the school’s season-ending awards banquet. A four-year varsity performer at Thomasville, Crawford helped pace the THS Lady Tigers to a composite mark of 51-18 as a three-year starter, including a regular-season area championship during her junior year. Crawford joins previously announced out-of-state EMCC women’s basketball signees Rickeisha Bryant of Homestead Senior High School in Florida and Malashia Chandler of Atlanta’s Westlake High School in Georgia. Crawford is the daughter of James and Lisa Crawford of Thomasville. James Crawford, who starred at Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky. (now University of the Cumberlands) after transferring from Livingston University (now University of West Alabama), enjoyed a productive 18-year professional career in the National Basketball League of Australia. With pro career averages of 22.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest in 504 career games played in Australia, Crawford was a four-time NBL First Team selection and was named to the NBL’s 25th Anniversary Team. |
