|Columbus' Nashedra Barry signs to play softball at East Mississippi|
SCOOBA – Nashedra Barry of Columbus High School has signed a national letter of intent to play softball at East Mississippi Community College, as announced Wednesday by EMCC softball coach Kate Neely.
The 6-foot-1 Barry also signed earlier this month to play basketball for head coach Sharon Thompson’s EMCC Lady Lions.
A right-handed pitcher, Barry earned team MVP and best offensive player honors during her fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball career for Columbus head softball coach Macy Wilbanks.
On the basketball court for head coach Yvonne Hairston’s CHS Lady Falcons, Barry averaged 12 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds per game as a senior forward.
While also excelling as a starting participant on the Columbus softball and basketball teams, Barry has flourished away from the athletic scene as well during her high school days. Along with serving as student body president and being an active member of CHS’s student council, she has been affiliated with the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Beta Club organizations. Barry is also a member of the National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society.
Barry is the daughter of Cynthia Barry of Columbus and the late Billy Barry.
Barry joins previously announced EMCC softball signees Shakari Stribling (Meridian HS), Leigh Ellen Barefield (Neshoba Central HS), Megan Ladner (Poplarville HS), Chelsea Theriot (Poplarville HS), DeShuni Sanders (Hew Hope HS), Mallory Pace (Northeast Lauderdale HS), Justine Jenkins (Caledonia HS), Katie Newman (Oak Hill Academy), Courtney Castleberry (Clarkdale HS), and Celeste Fontenot (Brusly [La.] HS).
