Jeff Jernagin has become the most recent Starkville High School product to sign with the East Mississippi Community College basketball program.
SCOOBA, Miss. – Starkville High School’s Jeff Jernagin has signed with the East Mississippi Community College men’s basketball program.  The announcement was made Friday by EMCC men’s basketball coach Mark White.

A 6-foot-4, 205-pound forward, Jernagin ranked as Starkville’s third-leading scorer and second-best rebounder at 12 points and eight boards per game this past season.  For his efforts on and off the field as a senior on SHS’s 21-5 squad, Jernagin earned the team’s Best Defensive Player Award and was the recipient of the prestigious Yellowjacket Award for his character, leadership and work ethic qualities displayed during the 2008-09 season.

A three-year basketball letterman for SHS head coach Greg Carter, Jernagin garnered the team’s Most Improved Player Award as a junior.  He will be reunited at East Mississippi with former Starkville hoops teammate Eduardo Fumo, who has signed with EMCC’s soccer program.

“Based on the success we’ve had with Starkville players in our program at EMCC, we know Jeff is coming from a solid high school program under the guidance of an outstanding head coach in Greg Carter,” White noted.  “Jeff is very athletic and is an excellent rebounder.  We believe he will benefit greatly from our individual improvement workouts as well as our strength and conditioning program at East Mississippi.”

Jernagin joins previously announced EMCC men’s basketball signees Deonte Alexander of Nashville’s Glencliff High School, Meridian’s Donovan Walker, and Joe McCoy of Raymond.
