EMCC baseball coach Tony Montgomery has added three Hernando High School standouts – Zach Burk, Jeremy Chambers and Alex Chick – to the Lions’ list of 2009 signees.
SCOOBA, Miss. – The East Mississippi baseball program has once again dipped into Hernando High School’s talent-laden program to land signees Zach Burk, Jeremy Chambers and Alex Chick.  All three players inked national letters-of-intent Monday to play for head coach Tony Montgomery’s EMCC Lions.

Current members of this year’s EMCC baseball team who were previously coached in high school by Hernando head coach Chris Chism include starting catcher David Williams, starting second baseman Nathan Riley, pitcher Matt Wigington and outfielder Cody Bennett.

A left-handed pitcher/outfielder, Burk currently owns a team-best 5-1 record on the mound for the 15-6 Tigers, including a 2.40 earned run average and 38 strikeouts in 33 innings.  Opponents are hitting but .191 off the 5-foot-8, 140-pound southpaw.  Burk is also batting .433 with a .541 on-base percentage as Hernando’s leadoff hitter.  He owns a team-high 29 hits on the year, including four doubles, with 23 runs scored, 17 runs batted in and seven stolen bases.

At 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, Chambers is a right-handed pitcher for the Hernando Tigers.  He is presently 3-2 on the year with a 2.13 ERA, while having issued but five walks with 14 strikeouts in 22 innings of work as a senior.

Serving as a team co-captain this season, Chick is a two-year starter at second base for HHS.  The 5-foot-10, 160-pound infielder is hitting .407 on the year with an on-base percentage of .540 and team-most 11 stolen bases.  Chick was the recipient of last year’s Coaches’ Award for the Tigers in recognition of his work ethic and all-around contributions to the team.

The Hernando trio joins previously announced EMCC baseball signees Demontez Calvert (West Point HS), Jamie Keenan (Heidelberg Academy), Cole Vaughan (Heritage Academy), Noah Greer (Southeast Lauderdale HS), Kameron Heiser (West Lauderdale HS), and Tyler Aldridge (Caledonia HS).
