| EMCC Lady Lions sign talented quartet to basketball scholarships |

SCOOBA, Miss. – EMCC women’s basketball coach Sharon Thompson announced Wednesday the addition of four signees to the Lady Lion program. Keyosha Robinson of Class 3A state runner-up Southeast Lauderdale High School and Alvionna Knox of Class 1A state semi-finalist Weir High School, along with teammates Nashedra Barry and Natalie Tate of Columbus High School, signed national letters-of-intent with EMCC during the first day of the NJCAA signing period.
A 5-foot-7 backcourt performer, Robinson averaged 7.0 points per game as a starting guard for head coach Joe Miller’s 31-4 Lady Tigers this past season. With 10 games of double-digit scoring as a senior, Robinson tallied a season-high 15 points in the 2008-09 opener against Wingfield and scored 14 points in back-to-back wins over Newton County and Carthage. A four-year varsity member at Southeast Lauderdale, she helped lead the Lady Tigers to a composite record of 135-14, including Class 3A state titles in 2007-08 (36-2) and 2005-06 (35-3). Robinson will be reunited at EMCC with former Southeast standout and 2008-09 all-state forward Martika Hull for the Lady Lions. Knox, a 6-foot-1 forward/center, paced the 25-5 Weir Lady Lions in scoring and rebounding at 15 points and 13 boards per contest in leading head coach Danya Turner’s 2008-09 WHS club to the school’s first state tournament appearance since 1967. In collecting All-District 5-1A honors for the second straight season as a team co-captain, Knox recorded single-game scoring highs of 31 points versus McAdams and 26 points against Drew in the first round of this year’s state tournament. Tate and Barry will arrive together on the Scooba campus after having played together for head coach Yvonne Hairston’s Lady Falcons at Columbus High School. Tate, a 5-foot-4 playmaker, averaged a team-high 16 points, six assists and three steals per game as a senior. A three-time team MVP for CHS, her season high of 34 points came against Choctaw Central. A 6-foot-1 forward, Barry averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks per contest this past year for the 14-9 Lady Falcons. She led Columbus High in rebounding each of the last two seasons. |
