| EMCC Lady Lions post 15-0 and 17-0 home softball wins over Coahoma |

.jpg "Image") The EMCC softball team will look to extend its eight-game home winning streak by playing host to North Division foe Holmes Wednesday afternoon on the Scooba campus. Head coach Kate Neely’s Lady Lions benefitted from 17 bases on balls, eight hit batsmen, 17 wild pitches, two passed balls and six errors by Coahoma during the home doubleheader sweep of the Lady Tigers. On the mound for EMCC, former West Lauderdale standout Brooke Lee and Courtney Nunn of Jonesboro, La., combined to strike out 15 of the 19 Coahoma batters faced during the mercy rule-shortened pair of no-hit shutout victories. Lee’s walk to Coahoma’s Johnna Wilson to lead off the third inning of the opening game was the only baserunner allowed by the EMCC pitching tandem on the day. In the opening contest, East Mississippi plated two runs in the first inning and four more in the second, before Sara Havard’s two-out, two-run single capped a nine-run third inning that was halted due to the 15-run mercy rule in collegiate softball. In the nightcap, the Lady Lions sent 19 batters to the plate during a 14-run opening frame that featured nine walks, five wild pitches and three hit batsmen by Coahoma pitching. A product of West Lauderdale High School, Havard was a perfect 4-for-4 on the afternoon with five runs batted in and three runs scored. Lee and Beaumont’s Regan Shows each produced singles in both games and scored six and four runs, respectively, during the doubleheader. Now 10-14 overall on the season and 4-2 in North Division play, East Mississippi will continue league action by playing host to Holmes in a Wednesday twin bill scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on the Scooba campus. |
