| Clarkdale's Courtney Castleberry inks with EMCC softball |

.jpg "Image") All-district softball performer Courtney Castleberry of Clarkdale High School recently became the second softball signee for the EMCC Lady Lions this signing period. A three-year starter in the outfield, Castleberry batted .333 as a junior to earn all-district honors and help lead coach Rick Roberson’s 27-9 Lady Bulldogs to the 2008 Class 2A state fast-pitch softball championship. This past fall, Castleberry was a starting member of Clarkdale’s 24-7 club that claimed the Class 2A state slow-pitch title. During her Clarkdale softball playing career, the right-handed Castleberry has been a starter on three state championship teams and two state runner-up clubs. “Courtney is a perfect fit for our program here at EMCC,” Neely said. “She has great speed in the outfield and is very good defensively. We also like her at the plate. Coming from a quality softball program at Clarkdale, we know Courtney is fundamentally sound with a terrific work ethic.” The 5-foot-4 Castleberry also played soccer for five seasons at Clarkdale High School. She was an all-district midfielder for her mother, Lea Castleberry, and helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to the Class 2A state playoffs each of the last four seasons. Having earned a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, Castleberry is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization and serves as the editor of Clarkdale’s school yearbook. She is the daughter of Charlie and Lea Castleberry of Meridian. Castleberry joins previously announced EMCC softball signee Celeste Fontenot of Brusly, La. |
