.jpg "Image") Chris Rose In his initial year with the Lions, Rose managed to regroup his squad following a slow start to the 2011 campaign. While winning 16 of their last 27 decisions, the 2011 Lions rebounded to earn the school’s first baseball playoff appearance since 2004 after compiling the program’s best division mark (14-10) since the 1998 season. EMCC’s season turnaround two years ago was best exemplified in the state playoffs at Jones County when the Lions took the eventual NJCAA Division II World Series runners-up to a decisive third game in a best-of-three playoff series against the state and region champions. Having won 60 percent of his games with a career head coaching record of 222-146 in seven seasons at the junior college level, Rose took over EMCC’s baseball coaching duties in 2010 after spending the previous five seasons as head baseball coach at Meridian Community College. With a five-year career coaching mark of 186-93 (.667) at MCC, Rose guided the Eagles to MACJC State Championships in 2008 and 2006 as well as an NJCAA Region 23 Championship in 2009. In his final season at MCC, the 32-19 Eagles claimed the 2010 Miss-Lou Conference title and were NJCAA Region 23 runners-up. During Rose’s stint as head coach, MCC also captured MACJC Central Division crowns three straight seasons (2006-08). For his teams’ accomplishments at Meridian CC, Rose garnered 2009 NJCAA Region 23 Coach of the Year honors along with earning MACJC Coach of the Year laurels in 2008 and 2006. He also collected Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) Coach of the Year recognition in 2008. Noted as one of the top recruiters in the region, Rose tutored six NJCAA All-Americans at Meridian Community College, including 2007 National Player of the Year Tyler Moore, who this season made his major league debut with the Washington Nationals. Rose’s recruiting talents first began to receive notice at MCC as an assistant coach under former head coach Chad Caillet. Serving as the Eagles’ pitching/catching coach and recruiting coordinator during the 2004-05 academic year, Rose was instrumental in landing a dozen all-state signees, including Player of the Year honorees from the states of Mississippi and Louisiana as well as Canada’s No. 2-rated prospect. Elevated to MCC’s head coaching position in the fall of 2005, Rose also had an impact on Meridian’s baseball program off the field. During his five-year stay as the school’s head baseball coach, the Eagles maintained a 3.05 composite team grade point average. Prior to coming to Meridian in 2004, Rose spent four seasons (2001-04) as a full-time assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at his alma mater, the University of Mobile in Alabama. A former four-year letterman as a catcher for UM, Rose served as the program’s pitching and catching coach while also assisting head coach Mike Jacobs with hitting responsibilities during his coaching tenure. Following Rose’s one-year stint working as a volunteer coach, UM’s initial recruiting class under his supervision produced five All-American honorees. After earning his bachelor’s degree in business communication from the University of Mobile, Rose stayed onboard at his alma mater working as an admissions counselor before beginning his coaching career in 2000. A native of Findlay, Ohio, Rose is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and is an active member of the Baseball Factory coaching organization. He has also served as a camp coordinator for Mississippi State’s high school and pitcher/catcher camps. Rose is married to the former Dana Jones of Demopolis, Ala., and they are the parents of two daughters - Peyton, 12, and Madeline, 9 - and two sons - Cy, 7, and Hobbs, born just prior to the start of the 2012 baseball season. |
