RAYMOND, Miss. – Finishing just four strokes out of second place, the East Mississippi golf team placed fourth in this week’s MACJC tournament event held at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raymond.

For the second straight week, coach Dale Peay’s Lions were in second place after Sunday’s opening-round play.  EMCC fired a 310 on the first day to sit just four strokes behind eventual winner Mississippi Gulf Coast.  The Lions finished the second day with a 314 to place fourth as a team on the par-72, 6,421-yard layout.  EMCC’s two-day total of 624 trailed host Hinds (313-308—621) and Copiah-Lincoln (319-301—620) by three and four strokes, respectively.

Mississippi Gulf Coast claimed the team title for the second consecutive week by carding a two-day score of 607 (306-301), while Elliott Bingham of host Hinds earned medalist honors with a one-stroke victory over MGCCC’s Richie Williams (146-147).

EMCC freshman James Winter led the Lions with an eighth-place individual finish this week by carding a two-day score of 154 (78-76).  The former Northwest Rankin standout placed 20th at last week’s first MACJC event of the spring in Laurel.   Calhoun City’s Will Black (78-80—158) and Jordan Jamar of Bossier City, La. (77-82—159) earned ties for 19th and 22nd place, respectively.

Northwest Rankin’s Garrett Alford (84-76) and Hal Larkin of Caledonia (77-83) completed the two-day event in a tie for 28th place with scores of 160, while Belmont’s Trey Adams rounded out East Mississippi’s scorecard with a 43rd-place tie (81-85—166).

East Mississippi will compete this weekend (Saturday & Sunday) at the Forest Country Club.  The MACJC’s third golf event of the spring is set to be hosted by East Central Community College.
