| Lady Lions win 81-71 at Coahoma; EMCC men fall 85-80 in nightcap |

![]() Sophomore Angelique Burtts, a Georgia State signee, notched her third double-double in the last four games with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the Lady Lions’ 81-71 road win over Coahoma Thursday. The Lions dropped 85-80 decision at Coahoma in the nightcap. Rebounding from their lowest scoring output of the season in last Saturday’s 62-43 home setback to 14th-ranked Copiah-Lincoln, coach Sharon Thompson’s Lady Lions got off to a fast start against Coahoma and led virtually the entire contest. Having built as much as a 24-point lead, EMCC was able to substitute freely throughout the game and all 12 players saw action in the contest. Now 10-3 overall and 2-0 in North Division play, the Lady Lions have prevailed in six of their last seven outings. Recording her third double-double in the last four games, sophomore Angelique Burtts led a quartet of double-figure EMCC scorers with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Jasmine Abrams of Columbus had 14 points and eight boards, while freshman Martika Hull of Meridian added 14 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Kottia White also reached double digits with 10 points for the winners. In Thursday’s nightcap, coach Mark White’s Lions fell to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in North Division action with the five-point setback. EMCC trailed by a 38-35 halftime score and struggled to keep the 9-4 Tigers off the offensive boards. Entering the game ranked 25th nationally in scoring average (20.7 ppg), freshman Coco Ware of Starkville again paced the visitors with 22 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Darian Donald also tallied 22 points, while sophomore playmaker Cataurius Taylor added 16 points and seven assists. The East Mississippi basketball teams continue divisional play by traveling to Fulton to take on Itawamba Monday night on the ICC campus. Game times at the Davis Event Center are set for 6 and 8 p.m. |
