| EMCC men's golf team to close out fall campaign at East Central Fall Invitational |

 Coach Dale Peay’s EMCC golf team closes out the fall campaign by competing at the two-day East Central Fall Invitational to be held on the acclaimed Azaleas course at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club. Hosted by East Central Community College, the tournament will be held on the acclaimed 7,128-yard, par-72 Azaleas course at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club. Meridian Community College, Northeast Mississippi, Copiah-Lincoln and Hinds round out the six-team tournament field. Coach Dale Peay’s East Mississippi golf team most recently successfully defended its EMCC Fall Invitational title by easily out-distancing runner-up Northeast Mississippi by a commanding 31 strokes (306-337) as well as four other schools. Held at the Highlands Plantation Golf Resort near Starkville, the one-day tournament yielded only eight scores in the 70s out of 43 golfers. However, EMCC’s freshman quintet posted half of those scores in cool, windy conditions to run away from the field for the team title. “We are looking forward to playing in this final tournament of the fall at Dancing Rabbit,” Peay noted. “Traditionally, some of the toughest teams in our state play in this East Central event, and I look forward to seeing how we match up with these teams.” For the third time in East Mississippi’s four fall golf competitions, freshman Michael Lauseng of Bossier City, La., recently took top individual honors for the Lions with his 3-over-par 73 to also claim overall medalist honors in the EMCC Fall Invitational two weeks ago. Calhoun City’s Will Black finished third at Highlands with a 76, followed by Garrett Alford of Northwest Rankin and Belmont’s Trey Adams with respective scores of 78 and 79. James Winter, Alford’s teammate at Northwest Rankin, carded an 87 to round out EMCC’s scorecard. The Lions continue to compete without the services of sophomores Brian Ledbetter and Zak Holloway. This past week, Ledbetter informed EMCC’s Peay that he has decided to discontinue playing golf in the spring in order to concentrate on academics. The former Central Holmes Academy standout had been rehabilitating an injured shoulder sustained in an August automobile accident. From Columbus’ Heritage Academy, Holloway continues to receive treatment for Crohn’s Disease, an ailment that affects the digestive system. “Our freshmen are feeling confident right now coming off the win in our own invitational at Highlands,” Peay stressed. “They are a hard-working group, and there is no doubt that last month’s World Class Fall Golf Tour had a big impact on us winning our own tournament recently.” |
