SCOOBA, Miss. – Sophomore punter Charlie Fall of East Mississippi Community College has been selected to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 Football First Team-College Division.

A second-year punter for coach Buddy Stephens’ 8-2 and North Division champions, Fall has compiled a 3.54 cumulative grade point average in teaching/coaching at EMCC.  The Stringer native is a two-time member of the school’s Dean’s List and serves as a TRIO Student Support Services student assistant.

A former standout at Stringer High School, Fall finished the 2008 campaign ranked sixth among the MACJC individual punting leaders at 39.6 yards per kick.  In addition to punting 33 times for 1,308 total yards this season for the 13th-ranked Lions, Fall also handled the team’s kickoff duties for much of the season.  He also served as EMCC’s holder for West Point’s Phillip Dimino on field-goal attempts and point-after-touchdown tries this fall.

Following East Mississippi’s 27-19 home win over Northwest Mississippi on Sept. 25, Fall was named the MACJC/Region 23 Special Teams Player of the Week after averaging 42.6 yards on five punts.

Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the District 6 College Division academic recipients were chosen from schools located in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
