Sophomore punter Charlie Fall has been named the MACJC/Region 23 Special Teams Player of the Week to become the third EMCC football player to earn the state’s weekly honor.
SCOOBA, Miss. – East Mississippi sophomore punter Charlie Fall has been named the MACJC/Region 23 Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in last week’s home win over Northwest Mississippi.

A former standout at Stringer High School, Fall averaged 42.6 yards on five punts during the Lions’ 27-19 victory over Northwest last Thursday in Scooba.  The second-year player also came in to handle EMCC’s kickoff duties a week ago.

For the season, Fall ranks seventh among the MACJC’s punting leaders with an average of 38.1 yards per kick.  In addition to his kickoff responsibilities of late for East Mississippi, he also serves as the holder for West Point’s Phillip Dimino on field-goal attempts and point-after-touchdown tries.

Fall’s recognition marks the state-leading third time an EMCC football player has garnered MACJC/Region 23 Player of the Week honors this season.  A week ago, Lion freshman quarterback Randall Mackey collected NJCAA and MACJC Offensive Player of the Week laurels, while sophomore strong safety Alex Hill of West Point was tabbed the state’s top defensive player for the opening week of the 2008 football campaign.
