SCOOBA, Miss. – Coach Dale Peay’s East Mississippi Community College men’s golf team carded a 314 total to place third at Tuesday’s Mississippi College Invitational held at the Patrick Farms Golf Course in Jackson.
With sophomores Zak Holloway and Brian Ledbetter sitting out due to illness and injury, respectively, the Lions competed with five freshmen at the Mississippi College-hosted event. EMCC’s Michael Lauseng of Bossier City, La., finished fifth individually to lead the Lion quintet with a 2-over-par 74 on the par-72, 6,900-yard Patrick Farms layout. Trey Adams of Belmont High School and Calhoun City’s Will Black followed with scores of 77 and 80 to finish the one-day tournament in eighth and 13th-place ties, respectively. Former Northwest Rankin High School teammates Garrett Alford and James Winter rounded out East Mississippi’s scorecard with an 83 and 84, respectively. “This was an excellent learning experience for our freshmen,” Peay noted. “I believe this team has tremendous potential, especially when we get Zak and Brian healthy and back into the lineup.” Host Mississippi College captured the team title with a 10-stroke victory (295-305) over Meridian Community College. Louisiana College placed fourth (321), followed by Millsaps College (340) and Tougaloo College (343). MC’s Dustin Lunceford claimed individual medalist honors with a 2-under-par 70 – three strokes ahead of teammate Joel Richardson and the MCC tandem of Chris Cochran and Tanner Sparks. East Mississippi will be back on the links next month when the team leaves Oct. 10 for its second annual World Class Fall Golf Tour. |
