MAYHEW, Miss. – East Mississippi Community College golf coach Dale Peay has announced the signing of five high school golfers. All five linksters will be freshmen on this year’s Lion golf team. A pair of former Northwest Rankin High School standouts headlines EMCC’s incoming class of recruits. James Winter and Garrett Alford previously helped lead the Cougars to the Class 5A state championship in 2005 and a runner-up state finish in 2007. Winter was rated as the No. 1 golfer in the state in 2007 by the Mississippi Junior Golf Association (MJGA) for the 16-18-year-old division. Alford earned first-team all-state honors each of the past two years while claiming back-to-back, third-place finishes in the Class 5A state championship. Will Black of Calhoun City High School captured the Class 1A state title in the spring after owning a No. 4 state ranking by the MJGA in the 16-18-year-old division for 2007. Trey Adams from Belmont High School most recently collected second-team all-state honors as a senior. A first-team all-state selection as a junior for the Cardinals, he was a member of two Class 2A state championship teams at BHS. EMCC’s lone out-of-state addition is Michael Lauseng of Airline High School in Bossier City, La. Having played the team’s No. 1 position for the past three years, he capped his prep career by being named the Vikings’ team MVP as a senior. “We’ve brought in some excellent talent to represent our golf program well here at EMCC with the addition of these outstanding young men,” Peay noted. “All of them are very good golfers with tremendous character. In addition, they were all excellent students during their high school careers.” |
