Freshman Alex Shelton of West Point scored her third goal of the season Friday afternoon in EMCC's 2-1 home soccer setback to Hinds CC.
SCOOBA, Miss. – East Mississippi Community College dropped a pair of home soccer decisions to Hinds Community College Friday afternoon, as the Lady Lions fell by a 2-1 count and the Lions were downed 3-0 in the nightcap.

The EMCC women, now 1-3-0 on the season, held a 1-0 halftime lead over Hinds on freshman Alex Shelton’s third goal of the season.  The West Point High School product ranks second on the club in scoring behind fellow rookie Nikeisha Noel of Trinidad.  However, the Lady Eagles scored twice in the second half to come away with the road victory.

The Lions, now 0-3-1 for the year, fell down by two early goals to Hinds en route to dropping their third straight decision following a season-opening scoreless tie to East Central.

“Both teams continue to make progress, though we’re being hurt in crucial situations by having mental lapses during key moments in matches,” EMCC head coach Junior Noel noted.  “It’s very difficult playing from behind against good teams, but our teams are playing very hard.”

The East Mississippi soccer teams continue their current five-match homestand by playing host to Itawamba Community College Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 9).  Match times are set for 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men at the EMCC Soccer Field.
