 Edwond Eddings In his first season on staff, the 2010-11 EMCC women’s team captured the program’s second MACJC North Division championship in a three-year span with a 9-3 league mark. In addition, the team’s 15-10 overall record two years ago marked the Lady Lions’ third consecutive season with 15 or more victories and third straight year advancing to the regional semifinals. Along with being actively involved with every aspect of the Lady Lions’ day-to-day basketball operations, including game-day and practice coaching duties, scouting preparation as well as strength and conditioning workout supervision, Eddings has also been instrumental in helping to secure back-to-back, talent-laden recruiting classes for the East Mississippi women’s program. Having played the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons for former EMCC head coach Clay Armstrong, Eddings returned to the Magnolia State in 2010 after spending the previous five seasons at Arkansas Tech University. Following his playing days at ATU, he served two seasons as a student assistant on Mark Downey’s Tech coaching staff prior to spending the 2009-10 campaign as the staff’s graduate assistant coach. During Eddings’ three seasons on staff, the Wonder Boys posted a 71-22 composite record. During Arkansas Tech’s 30-2 campaign in 2009-10, which was highlighted by a second straight Gulf South Conference championship and a repeat NCAA Division II Tournament appearance, Eddings was directly involved in all aspects of the men’s basketball program. While pursuing his master’s degree in college student personnel, Eddings’ responsibilities included assisting in Tech’s day-to-day game and practice preparation, scouting opponents, recruiting prospects, as well as the coordination of player academic progress, strength and conditioning, and team travel duties. On the heels of 18-11 and 23-9 seasons in 2007-08 and 2008-09, respectively, Arkansas Tech reeled off a school-record 25 consecutive wins to start the 2009-10 campaign en route to achieving a No. 1 national ranking in the NABC/Division II Coaches’ Top 25 poll. In eclipsing the 30-win mark for the first time in school history, the 2009-10 Tech team advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II South Regional for the second straight year. Eddings earned his bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Arkansas Tech after completing his associate’s degree work in liberal arts from EMCC in 2005. He served as team captain for the Lions’ 2004-05 club and capped his junior college career at East Mississippi by participating in the 2005 MACJC All-Star Game as a member of the North Division squad. A former ball boy during home basketball games at the University of Mississippi in the early-1990s, Eddings played for head coach Sammy Smith at Columbus (Miss.) High School, where he served as team captain and was the recipient of the Falcons’ Sportsmanship Award as a senior in 2002-03. Eddings is the son of Dwight and Vivian Eddings. He has an older brother, Cadarrall, who was a three-year starter in basketball at the University of West Alabama prior to serving as an assistant basketball coach at East Mississippi Community College, and a sister, Amber. |
